What is Laser Cutting? Manufacturing

What is Laser Cutting?

Laser cutting uses a focused, high-energy beam to cut metal and engineered materials with precision and speed. The laser beam follows a CNC programme to shape, pierce, and separate material according to the design. This method delivers clean edges, minimal material distortion, and repeatable results across production runs.

At T2K, laser cutting sits alongside our machining services to offer a complete precision engineering solution.

How Laser Cutting Works?

Laser cutting uses optics and motion control to direct a concentrated beam at the material surface. The beam melts or vaporises material where it strikes, and assist gases blow debris away to leave a clean cut edge. Because the laser does not physically touch the workpiece, there is no tool wear and very little material stress.

We feed your design data into our CNC laser system. The laser then follows programmed tool paths to cut shapes with high accuracy and consistency. Skilled operators monitor the process to keep quality on track from prototype through production.

Benefits of Laser Cutting

Laser cutting supports precision manufacturing because it:

  • produces accurate cuts with consistent edge quality
  • supports tight tolerances on complex shapes
  • cuts quickly and efficiently on sheet and plate materials
  • reduces material waste through precise nesting
  • suits both prototype work and production runs

Materials Suitable for Laser Cutting

Laser cutting works well with a range of metals commonly used in engineering, including:

  • mild steel
  • stainless steel
  • aluminium
  • and beyond

Material type, thickness, and design detail guide the cutting parameters for each job.
